The ‘Discover Your Star’ Project 〜 A Kind of Mission Statement 〜

Before I get too far along, I thought it would be a good idea to share my motivation for starting this blog.

When I interviewed a chemist, who lived in Barcelona, she said, “Sometimes things happen for a reason, but you can only see it when you look back later.” At that time, I had just turned 17 years old, and her words resonated deeply with me. They reminded me of Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University, where he spoke about the uncertainty of moving forward but emphasized that everything you do has meaning and value, even if it seems unrelated at first. You can only connect the “dots” by looking backward, so you must trust the process, be bold, and keep moving forward. It’s comforting to realize that this wisdom can apply to everyone, including me.

At 17, I’m still amid exploration, too young to see how events in my life connect. But I remember the spark I felt when a graduate student in the lab I worked in during the summer of my sophomore year told me what bioengineering was and how broad the field covered the scope of medicine. I was captivated by its possibilities. Trusting my gut, I then boldly reached out to two doctors to learn more about bioengineering and their cutting-edge research on non-invasive diagnostic tools and medical devices that support patients’ mobility. They were open and shared their stories, offering me crucial advice: “Find your big dream that will take you on your journey for the next 20 years.”

And here you are, reading what’s more or less the mission statement for the launch of a blog called “Discover Your Star.” The blog aims to help youngsters discover their own North Star to guide them in their journey on this planet.

I am eager to share the valuable insights I have gained from the remarkable individuals I have met and interviewed. My goal is to pass on this wisdom to others who, like me, are seeking guidance on their career paths. The path may not always be straightforward, and the work can be daunting. However, I want to stand alongside others on this journey because it can be a lonely, challenging, and introspective one. Each of us has a small flicker inside—a tiny flame for now, but a strong one. We are confident and determined to make a difference in this world and lead successful lives in our own ways. We just don’t yet know how or where we should let our small flame shine.

Even though I’m unsure about the journey ahead, I feel lucky to have my twin brother by my side as we start this blog together. We all need support and guidance, especially from those with more life experience.

Our blog has a unique purpose – to help you reflect and grow. It may challenge you and make you think deeply about yourself and your aspirations, but we are on this journey with you. Let’s embark on this exploration together!
